Fusion Rental is a fairly technically advanced site in Bangalore--the only one to our knowledge to also rent books.
The site lists a generous 19 genres to aid browsing, as well as lists like New Releases, Academy Awards, and Recent Additions. The search engine is fair, allowing a search on any one of the following: title, actor, director, and year (the latter being fairly useless unless you want to see every film produced in say 1999.) Ideally, they would have an advanced search engine allowing multiple fields to be searched at once--Ewan McGregor in 1999 films, etc.
Fusion Rental's actual data displayed for each film is fairly generous, including hyperlinked entries for the stars, director, producer, and genre, as well as listings for year, customer rating, and a fairly lengthy synopsis. To their credit, their is a facility to allow customer ratings, but not in depth reviews. They also boast a fairly good recommendation system--"Members who rented this also rented..." which according to US research is very influential in driving customer selections.
They claim that over 90% of their new orders are shipped the same or next day after returns are received. Though that said, they work 10 AM to 8 PM Monday to Friday--long hours, but not on Saturday like some rental companies.
There is a fairly good supply of current books, largely in English, but also a small selection in French and Hindi.
There are few reports on the net and blogosphere on Fusion Rental, suggesting it is fairly new and small.
One annoyance, you can only keep the titles for three days on an unlimited package, or two days on the limited one (including the day of delivery as day one)--this is too restrictive and should be made more flexible in our opinion.
Prices: Fusion Rental has one unlimited DVD subscription plan: 2 discs out at a time for RS 500 per month (Rs 1000 security deposit), they also have 6 discs total in a month for RS 300, working out to Rs 50 per disc (deposit of Rs 500). However, there is no price incentive to use this limited package, as the rental price for a single disc is also a very reasonable Rs 50 each (Rs 500 deposit). They also have book combo packages.
If you cancel, you must get all your outstanding book and DVDs back to them before your next bulling date, otherwise your account will be charged again and remain active--something to be wary of.
