Catchflix is a technically advanced site with comparatively large service area, including Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and Bhubanesawar, Kolkata, and suburbs. Unlike most Indian (and indeed worldwide) DVD rental services, Catchflix works strictly on a per-disc rental rate rather than a monthly rate, so you only pay for what you rent. They offer next day delivery if you place an order before 4 PM, except on Sundays and national holidays. You keep the the discs for 3 days, when a courier comes to pick them up. You can even have the discs delivered to your home or office.
Catchflix has phone, email, and even live online chat customer service support, which few other sites can boast. Catchflix also has a blog which lists their new releases and new features for the site.
Browsing the site is relatively easy, though they have only 8 genres, less than many sites. Each titles lists actors, director (both hyperlinked) as well as year, language and region code, and there is a short synopsis of the story. Some other sites have more data on each film, but this really is all you need to make a choice, so we can't complain. If they don't have a film you'd like to see, click Suggest Movie and you can email and ask them to stock the title. We like their "Browse Randomly" menu choice, which gives you a random smattering of the inventory. They also have a Top 100 collection of links, but really should add a few more, like Oscar winners, top lists for various genres or languages, etc. They list films in English and Hindi. We'd also prefer if they had the facility for users to rate films.
Though only launched in March 2006, Catchflix has prospered in a short time, and remains among the top choices for Indian DVD rental.
Prices: Catchflix is unlike most Indian DVD rental companies as they have various pay-as-you-go, per disc subscription plans instead of monthly plans. For instance, you can rent 1 DVD for Rs 99 (Rs 99 per disc), 2 DVDs for Rs 149 (RS 75 per disc), 3 DVDs for Rs 189 (Rs 63 per disc), 20 DVD rentals for Rs 1219 (Rs 61 per disc), or a whopping 50 DVDs for Rs 2899 (a mere Rs 58 per rental).
Again, unlike most companies, there are no monthly fees, no membership fees, or security deposit. The 50 DVD package averaging at only Rs 58 per disc is good value, but you can get cheaper elsewhere if you go for an unlimited subscription in particular, which is why we've rated their value a bit lower. On this plan, you just keep renting until you use all 50 credits, then perhaps purchase another rental package. Nonetheless, we suggest trying their 3-disc package first as a trial to see if you like the service before plonking down for 50 discs.
